If you’re a Northern Territory (NT) homeowner, business or a not-for-profit organisation, you can apply for a $6,000 grant through the Home and Business Battery Scheme. You can use the grant to buy and install batteries and inverters.

Homeowners that own a business can apply for both their home and business.

The grant is available to eligible recipients regardless of their electricity provider.

Jacana Energy customers who receive the premium one-for-one feed-in tariff and access this scheme will be transferred to a standard feed-in tariff.

Who can apply

You can only submit one application per property and per homeowner.

You can apply if you’re:

  • a registered owner of a residential property in the NT
  • a registered NT business
  • a not-for-profit or community organisation operating in the NT in either owned or leased premises.

The property can be owner-occupied or used as an investment, but there can only be one application per property and per homeowner.

If you are a homeowner and also own a business, you can apply for one grant for your home and one for your business.

What’s included

You can use the funding to:

  • buy and install a solar photovoltaic (PV) with an eligible battery and inverter or
  • buy and install an eligible battery and inverter only, if you already have solar PV installed.

The minimum capacity for eligible batteries is 7 kilowatt hours.

What’s not included

You can’t use the funding to buy and install solar PV panels and inverters where they are not being installed simultaneously with a battery.

How to apply

ou must read, understand and agree to the scheme’s terms and conditions before you apply.

To apply for the Home and Business Battery Scheme, follow these steps:

Step 1. Check your eligibility – read the terms and conditions.

Step 2. Get a quote from a qualified system installer or provider. To check the certification requirements, go to the NT WorkSafe website.

There is no minimum number of quotes.

Step 3. After selecting a preferred quote, apply online on the Smartygrants website to receive a unique voucher.

Applications open at 9am on Tuesday 14 April 2020.

Application Process

Applications are assessed in the order they are received.

If your application is incomplete, it will take longer.

After you apply

Eligible works must only start after an application has been approved and must be completed within six months of the date the voucher was issued.

After completion of work

Once the work is complete, you must pay your installer or provider.

Use the voucher amount as part payment.

You must give your voucher to the installer or provider.

The NT Government will pay the voucher amount direct to them.
